Wrecking Ball
04:13
|
|||
Like a bull into my china heart you charged without concern
And now I'm left with all this mess to sweep.
I guess that I was home from school the day I should have learned
Not to love someone who makes you weep.
Like a wrecking ball you came through my hall of mirrors
And now my bad luck never seems to end.
And all too soon our honeymoon was waning,
And now we're sat here in the dark just being friends.
So I write sad songs about girls who smile from photographs
That are tucked inside a diary from a time that I want to forgets
And I know that soon I'll have to try to erase them from my mind,
And throw the book in the fire, but I'm just not ready yet.
Our love's like prayers, whispered over scratch-cards:
No matter what I say, I'm never going to win.
I'm the homeless man asleep in the churchyard:
I'm so close to salvation but I just can't get in.
And I write sad songs about girls who smile from photographs
That are tucked inside a diary from a time that I want to forgets
And I know that soon I'll have to try to erase them from my mind,
And throw the book in the fire, but I'm just not ready yet.
And I wish that you could see
See what you've done to me
And I hope you feel ashamed
Every time you go to speak my name
When I'm strung out on the floor,
Hidden away behind my bedroom door.
I can't do this any more.
So I write sad songs about girls who smile from photographs
That are tucked inside a diary from a time that I want to forgets
And I know that soon I'll have to try to erase them from my mind,
And throw the book in the fire, but I'm just not ready yet.

The Rambler
03:35
|
|||
I style myself a rambler,
And I style myself a thief
I'll sneak in through you window when you are asleep,
And whisper "I will always love you" before I take your dreams.
And I'll carry them forever in the pocket o'er my heart,
And they'll protect like a bible as I pick them apart
And find that I was not the one for you,
I was just a start.
So when I'm gone
I know that you will carry on.
And I will sneak in at night sometimes
And marvel at what you've become.
I tremble when you kiss me, I'm broken when you go
I'll carry you with me when I'm out on the road
But I cannot be who you want me to be,
I do not have it in my bones.
I grow flowers at my window that are yellow like the sun,
You grew so much in my arms and now that you are gone
I'm resting and watching what I've helped to build,
And all the good that has come.
So when I'm gone
I know that you will carry on.
And I will sneak in at night sometimes
And marvel at what you've become.
I don't know what happens when human hearts collide
But I hope to know all the potential that you've got bottled up inside
And I know that you will colour the world with your light
And make it a better place and leave it shining bright.
So I style myself a rambler,
And I style myself a thief
I'll sneak in through you window when you are asleep,
And whisper "I will always love you" before I take your dreams.

Bayonets
02:51
|
|||
Affix bayonets.
Prepare for the whites of another mans eyes to determine if yours lose their light.
I'm finally doing it.
Please tell my mother I've gone to find my fortune and fight for king and country, just like the other boys do.
Because my body is young but my mind has begun to get old.
And I'd rather risk death out in the world than live in this hole.
The summers are warm here, but my heart is growing so cold.
I've gambled my chips in this town, I've lost, and I fold.
There and back again.
Walked so many miles all the streets look the same and I'm finding that I always feel lost.
Feel like myself again.
But with my heart in your hands and you inside my head I am wondering if that's someone I'm not.
Because nothing is certain once you have stepped out your front door.
And the things that are hurting you always make you want some more.
Until you look in the mirror and see someone that you abhor.
Well not this time, I won't lay down like I have before.
Affix bayonets.
Prepare for the whites of another mans eyes to determine if yours lose their light.

Maps
04:03
|
|||
I wrote a letter and it said
"By the time you read this, my dreams will all be dead,
Carried away upon your head"
That's how the letter read.
I leave my footprints in the sand,
But by the morning they'll be swept away,
by the turning of the clock hands.
And there'll be no mark where I stand.
And now I'm standing on a cliff listening for an answer:
"Is this everything there is, or is there something after?"
I guess that's another answer I am not destined to find.
I wonder where the river flows.
Probably away to the same place all the time goes.
I've got this itching beneath my toes,
It's time to hit the road.
To look for all I cannot find.
I ask directions but it's the blind leading the blind.
The maps lie only in our minds,
And yours is different from mine.
And now I'm standing on a cliff listening for an answer:
"Is this everything there is, or is there something after?"
I guess that's another answer I am not destined to find.
You were my dream catcher, you kept my hopes safe and my fears at bay.
You were my dream catcher, you kept my hopes safe and my fears at bay.
But now you hang upon the wall above an empty bed, and my dreams have gotten away.
I hope they float back your way, someday.

Wuthering Heights
04:13
|
|||
Take a walk on a ghostly moor,
Step out of your front door,
Either way
This could be your dying day.
Jump out of an aeroplane,
Jump out through your window pane,
The falls are just the same,
It just matters how you land.
Everyone's forgotten the first rule of fight club,
Now no-one talks about anything else.
There's hundreds of people checking their reflections,
Their bruises are reflections of self.
And we all want to know
"Where did all the heroes go?"
Now the walls are slick with blood,
And our tears melt the snow.
Now we've found a place where we can go to disappear,
Try to get away from this party, but we're already here.
Now we've found a place where we can go to disappear,
Try to get away from this party, but we're already here.
So happy new year.
Never know just what you're going to say,
Never know which way's the right way,
This way or that way, the only way
Is the way the river flows.
Never know just what you're going to do
When she tells you she's in love with you.
What do you do, what do you do
When all your dreams come true?
Run away with me tonight,
Dance with me in the moonlight.
Don't you want to know the way things go
When everything's alright?
Run away with me tonight,
Dance with me in the moonlight.
Don't you want to know the way things go
When everything's alright?
Take a walk on a ghostly moor,
Step out of your front door,
Either way
This may be your dying day
So say the things you want to say,
That you might not get another chance to say,
Because this could be your last day.
